Cosford
On the 15th I was lucky enough to be inducted to help out with the outreach at RAF Cosford, minus the terrible weather it was day filled with wonder. Since I had never been to any RAF before as a member of the public never mind as a volunteer so the tour of the air base was surprising especially since I was expecting something less than half the size of the actual museum. When we started in a decommissioned surveillance aircraft, the nimrod; from which a technician was rewiring parts of it in order to get some basic functions working.
From there we went to the workshop where they repair planes, here is where we got to see the volunteer engineers at work in a cluttered space. After that we walked round the rest of the hangers in the museum where we got to see lots of planes from various time periods in the RAF's history. Starting from the first world war where we saw three of the common planes of the time, the second world war had a lot more vast range of planes including Spitfires and a Mosquito. After this we came to the cold war section of the museum where we saw various nuclear based bombers and how technology rapidly changed in this time period.
Over all today offered a brief insight about what it'd be like working in a place like Cosford especially one where everything is interlinked such as history and STEM.
